I’m Melissa Llarena, an international job interview coach, published author, and vlogger.

I have been career coaching for 20 years and had a corporate career in parallel that has included working in three sectors (financial services, consumer goods, communications) within 16 business units including HR, and three countries including France, the UK, and the US.

I believe that you can play the cards in your favor during a job interview no matter how many cards you may feel are stacked up against you.

I’ve coached several professionals around the world on how to effectively and confidently sell themselves during a job interview and helped millions through articles in Forbes, Money Magazine, Huffington Post, and Financial Times, CNBC, Fox Business.

I’m unlike other career coaches in that I bring the curiosity, courage, and passion around career possibilities it takes to help you reach your ultimate career goal faster and with zero mistakes along the way.

And, I know your goals are possible once you learn how to figure out what picky hiring managers really want.

All you need to win in the interview room is guidance and an insider who knows how to make you feel like the interview stage is yours.

I’ll can share with you the script before every interview performance and will always share with you my insider director notes.

My drive is personal – it comes from seeing the obstacles that stood in my family’s way and my dedication to ensuring that my three sons don’t end up in dull careers that they hate.

You don’t want to spend most of your life doing a job that you no longer enjoy, working for an employer that you no longer respect, nor feeling vulnerable that any day now you’ll be fired.

You want to feel proud of your work and success. You will do what it takes to find the right opportunity and get the job offer so that you can get back to full-out living.

I want you to know that coming to my website and choosing to learn what you may not know about the job search takes guts – for starters because a lot has changed in the market and it can be scary to uncover your blind spots.

It also takes guts because the job search is messy and filled with rejection – however I have full confidence that you will find what you’ve been looking for.

You will get the job offer you want so that you can become and feel like the successful professional who has it all – clarity, freedom, fun challenges to solve, and a career that you love.

I can show you how to get there with zero bumps on the roads and no missed opportunities.

But wait, there’s more than just free content.

If you need a refresher on how to interview then, I invite you to learn about my product suite especially my interview playbook where I reveal the secret motivations behind why you are being asking specific questions including that pesky weakness question everyone wants to avoid.

Reviews are in for the Interview Playbook for Corporate Olympians:

  • Common questions were explored in enough detail to enable me to create my own custom responses” – Ralph Hoy
  • “The book is particularly helpful for those of us that have plenty of experience, but difficulty translating those experiences in a corporate setting.” – Lindsay Meyer (transitioning military veteran)
  • “This book focuses on immediate interview preparation” – Mamie Brown

However, if you are more calculated and have more time between today and your next shot at landing your dream job then we should talk.

So, when is the best time to talk to a career coach? Hint: it’s not when you feel ready because that won’t happen in time for you to take meaningful action. The best roles are snatched quickly.

These are some moments that have prompted my clients to schedule a one-on-one.

  • When my clients had a schedule job interview for a role they really wanted
  • When my clients wanted to iron out their game plan
  • When my clients were let go – reorganized, right-sized, fired
  • When my clients had enough after realizing they hit the glass ceiling
  • When my clients lost their safety net – a sponsor left, there was a change in leaders, a mentor left
  • When my clients were overlooked for a promotion and wanted to take action
  • When my clients didn’t know who to ask for a reference
  • When my clients felt ignored by their network
  • When my clients felt old or experienced ageism, discrimination
  • When my clients felt disappointed – they didn’t get the callback or they got rejected
  • When my clients felt like imposters and needed to rebuild their confidence to take action
  • When my clients felt unsure about their self-worth
  • When my clients didn’t know how to piece together their story
  • When my clients wanted to return to work after a sabbatical or maternity leave
  • These are some of the moments when my clients have come to me.

Schedule a 30-minute intro session if you are facing one of these “turning the corner” moments and you are committed to taking back control by taking action. My promise is a full money guarantee if I don’t deliver a clear next step that you can take within 48 hours towards your goal.

Now, my resume

I started my career while working at JPMorgan Chase as a generalist in HR, where I focused on performance management and high-potential career-development programs. I later transitioned into the bank’s Internet-marketing unit, where I worked on competitive intelligence. Immediately thereafter, I joined Reuters, where I was the lead trainer for Fidelity Investments. These experiences positioned me well for my subsequent roles marketing brands across sectors, including in consumer product goods, financial services, and technology. Notably, I worked on the IBM account for Ogilvy & Mather, where I built, implemented, and encouraged the reuse of best practices worldwide. I left my successful marketing career for megabrands including American Express and P&G to help propel top talent toward achieving a greater satisfaction in their current careers, as well as to help them cultivate their career callings.

Today, I am an adjunct instructor for my alma mater, NYU, where I earned an undergraduate psychology degree. I earned an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. I realized when I earned full-rides at both institutions that I had a knack for selling myself that I want to pass along. As a result, I enjoy giving back even as a mom with three sons under seven years old.

I continue to provide my expertise as a volunteer interviewer for many not-for-profit, career-development organizations in the US and deliver transition strategy talks at Harvard, NYU, Dartmouth College, Community Training & Employment Resources for Military Veterans, Ivy League Alumni LinkedIn Group and other organizations.

The US News & World Report, The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Social Media Week, TheLadders, Business Insider, Psychology Today, Fox Business News, and American Express Open Forum have turned to me for insights. I have authored articles focused on successful transitions for Forbes and Money Magazine. I am also the author of the widely viral eBook The Mommy Shift: A Reentry Strategy, where I provide strategic, tech-savvy ideas for working moms interested in successfully transitioning back into the workforce.
